Fall Even Deeper In Love With These Date Nights At Home

In this busy world it can be difficult to set aside time for date nights - and if you have kids, it’s even harder to make sure that you spend some quality time with your partner. But the only way to have a successful family life is to make sure that you don’t cast aside your relationship the second that you have kids - a marriage is something that you have to keep building over the years to make it stronger and stronger, and spending more time together will reinforce that. Date nights at home are a great and cheap alternative to having to go out and hire a babysitter - and here are some ideas to start you off...

Have A Picnic On The Floor

One of the best ways to get back to basics with your partner is to get a little silly. Chances are when you first met you were both a lot less worn down by various responsibilities, so it’s time to try to recapture those days of misspent youth by having a picnic on the floor. Make sandwiches and provide other food like sausage rolls, cookies, tomatoes, carrot, cucumber and bell pepper sticks and hummus, and - of course - glasses of champagne. If the weather’s nice enough, you could even do this in your back yard! The most important thing is to have fun.

Have Theme Nights

One great way to make your date night at home a little different is to have theme nights. Not only will they be a lot of fun to think of but they’ll also be a challenge for you and your partner, which will be a lot of fun as you make Cuban food together for the first time as you dance to songs by the Buena Vista Social Club, or eat a meal full of foods starting only with one letter (hint: go for ‘p’. Pasta, pizza, pesto, potatoes….)

Build A Blanket Fort

Nestle together on your sofa or on the floor after building your perfect blanket and pillow fort. Not only will it be a lot of fun to do, but the physical closeness you’ll find yourself in when you’re actually inside the fort will feel pretty romantic - how often do you spend time simply being close together? Watch one of your favourite movies on TV - try this link if you want to use a streaming service - and eat buttered popcorn as you cuddle together.

Take A Trip Down Memory Lane

It’s easy to get caught up in the trappings of modern life and mundane domestic tasks, but on this particular date night, it’s time to go back to where it all began. Take a look at your old photographs from when you first met and have a good laugh at the ridiculous hairstyles you used to have (or laugh at your partner for not changing his hairstyle since then!) You could also take a look at your wedding album and listen to the song you had your first dance to for a special romantic moment that you’ll remember for a long time.
